I had suggested we get it for Brad's birthday in June, and that's what started the search for the right little bike.
Dustin found a Suzuki DRZ 70 in absolutely perfect condition after a few weeks of searching classified ads. The guy selling it had a 10 year old who was upgrading to a bigger bike, and had taken extremely good care of the one he was selling.
It's literally almost brand new with the amount of time it's been ridden, but it is a few years old. Good deal for us!! We didn't pay for brand new, but basically got it anyway!
After Dustin came home with it, there were a few reasons why we decided not to wait for Brad's birthday in June. 1)there's a good few months of riding time before that 2)Zach would not get one for his birthday, he would get a hand-me-down and that doesn't seem fair 3) It's both of theirs this way, not just Brad's 4) Dustin couldn't wait!!
Zach loves the idea of it, but isn't quite ready for the co-ordination the throttle, brake, and shifting takes, so he's learning to drive the Yamaha quad we have (now that Brad isn't hogging it!) which is just a gas-and-go in first gear.
Talk about some fun things for them though - they were all grins as they were driving up and down the back lane, and when Dustin went with them around some other lanes.
