Update

I was chatting with a good friend today and she was surprised that I had painted my kitchen cabinets but hadn't blogged it yet...sorry! I had the pics up on my facebook, but I guess I've been neglecting my blog.
We've done a lot since the last shots I have on here, so consider this post an update on it all (in no particular order either, this has all been done in the past month or so) ...

THE BASEMENT RAILING

Dustin took the unnecessary bulkhead down from above the basement stairs. Notice how narrow the hall is where he's standing... that's why we moved the half-wall next. He also took that weird little angle out too, so we have just a nice clean line there.

MASTER-BEDROOM CLOSET DOORS
Have you ever painted louvre doors?! What a job!! I did these the first few weeks we were here, but I think we've decided we're going to get new doors eventually. These are incredible BIG and heavy, and are pulling apart at the top from their own weight. But in the meantime, I think they look a lot better!

STAIRS TO SECOND LEVEL
The picture with Zach was taken before we'd even moved in - notice the useless little "stage" area on the landing. Also, the picture doesnt show it, but if you're over 5'9", the way the stairs are here, you'll hit your head. I'm 5'10" and forgot to duck a few times. Not fun.
Dustin used the extra room the platform gave and made an extra stair in there to use all of the possible head room. There is LOTS of clearance now. Plus, by taking off the "stage" and angle wall, the hall beside it isn't nearly so narrow!

DISHWASHER!!
This was my belated Christmas present. No words needed to explain it i guess. I was SOO happy to get it!!

MOVING WALLS UPSTAIRS
The biggest quirk of this house is it's narrow halls. The bedrooms are overly big, but the halls are ridiculously narrow. So we moved Brad into Zach's room for a while (they are actually getting along really well sharing a room! Most of the time at least;P) and moved the two outer walls of Brad's room to give the halls some more space. At first, I thought it was A LOT of work for only a few inches of more room, but man, am I glad Dustin insisted it would be worth it! I can carry a laundry basket down the hall now!

THE HALF-BATH
This has become my favorite room in the house so far. I adore the red on the walls contrasting with the black! I'm trying to talk Dustin into repainting the living room and kitchen in this color eventually. It's just such a warm color!
So, I painted the vanity, Dustin replace the toilet, and then we thought we'd try spray painting the register, towel ring, and toilet paper holder. We didn't really expect them to looks as good as they did in the end!! We were so impressed! It just goes to prove - paint covers a multiple of sins!:P
The flooring and vanity top still need to be replaced, plus it needs baseboards and a mirror - but I seriously loooove this bathroom!

THE KITCHEN
Hmmm, what to say about the kitchen... I painted the cabinets! I took the handles off, but masked up the hinges. It seemed to work well enough. I probably did 3-4 coats in some places, mainly because I didn't prime first. Again, I hope to get new cabinets eventually, but in the meantime, I really like how these turned out! We plan to spray the exisiting handles in copper, and then mist black over to give it an aged look. Probably not until spring though, I really dont want that smell in the house - the few bathroom things we sprayed were really stinky for a while!

MASTER-BEDROOM WINDOW TREATMENT
For those of you who havent seen my bedding set, it's a purple with swirls and flowers on it, so when I was at the fabric store and saw this pattern, I couldn't resist. Sure, buying curtains from Walmart probably would have been cheaper, but I just loooved this fabric!
Talk about testing my sewing skills! I chose a very simple style, hoping to have the least amount of waste and screwups. I am pleased with how they turned out, and they match perfectly with my bedroom set!

So there you have it... I also painted my craft room, but it's not that noticeable. The walls looks so clean compared to before, but because I chose a light almond color, it's really hard to capture on a camera.
I'll try to keep on top of this better - I really do love blogging! Leave comments too- I'm curious what you all think!:)
